Safety at OST: What to do in the event of an emergency

When reporting an emergency, you should answer the following questions where possible:

1. Who are you?
2. What happened?
3. Where did it happen?
4. When did it happen?
5. How can we reach you?
6. How many people are injured?
7. What is the nature of the injuries?
8. Where are you now?

What to do in the event of an evacuation

1. Warn people at risk and take them with you.
2. Leave buildings via the stairs.
3. Proceed to the assembly point.

Assembly point locations:

• Buchs assembly point:
  Bicycle parking garage at the parking lot east of the buildings
• Rapperswil-Jona assembly point (Obersee Campus):
  Meadow by the Mattioli sculpture between Buildings 01 (Main building), 03 (Lecture theater) and 04 (Campus Restaurant)
• Rapperswil-Jona assembly point (Eichwies Tech Park):
  Meadow in front of the Tech Park at Eichwiesstrasse 18, near the fish pond
• St. Gallen assembly point, Fachhochschulzentrum:
  Parking lot at Lokremise, southwest of the Central University Building (Fachhochschulzentrum)
• St. Gallen assembly point, Neumarkt:
  Neumarkt parking garage exit ½
• St. Gallen assembly point, Hauptpost:
  Leonhardspärkli between Kesslerstrasse and Pestalozzistrasse

Ensuring secure working at OST

Cyber criminals often feign urgency or exert pressure. Develop a healthy sense of doubt (Stop – Think – Connect). Take note of the following points in particular

• Don't allow yourself to be fooled and don't let fraudsters get access to your data.
• Lock away confidential files when you leave the workplace.
• Email check – abnormalities:
  • Do you know the sender and is their email address correct?
  • Do the subject and content of the email make sense?
  • Have you checked the link?
  • Were you expecting an attachment?
• Use different and secure passwords for different applications/accounts. Activate two-factor authentication (2FA)
• Lock your computer when leaving the workplace
• Take confidentiality into account when processing data (data classification)
• Use computers that are protected by antivirus software, a firewall, password protection, device encryption, backup and continuous updates for applications and operating systems.
• Only connect known devices to your computer and only install applications from trustworthy sources.
• Report unusual activity on your computer or your account to OST ICT Support.

And if the worst happens?

Anyone can mistakenly click on the wrong thing.

• In the event of a malware infection such as ransomware, it is important to react immediately and disconnect the network connections. Don't forget to deactivate the WiFi as well.
• If you suspect that your password is no longer secret, change it immediately.
• Report any incidents immediately.
