Antenna technology: development, simulation, measurements & optimization

Antenna technology has a long tradition at ICOM. Customer-specific antennas have been developed, simulated (ANSYS HFSS, CST, AWR Microwave Office) and optimized in various industrial projects. Another highlight is our own antenna measurement chamber, which can be used to test and verify antenna and communication systems.

Wireless sensor networks are becoming increasingly important in the context of IoT and automation. Various projects have been carried out at ICOM in the field of wireless sensor networks. It can therefore draw on a broad knowledge of various standards and protocols, such as Bluetooth, LoRaWan and Cellular IoT. ICOM has expertise in the evaluation and design of wireless sensor networks and can also develop these up to the functional model stage.

ICOM has a wide range of possibilities for measuring signals and networks: we are equipped for vector network analysis up to 20 GHz and for spectral analysis up to 30 GHz. In addition, with our antennas and our expertise, we can also support and advise on developments in the areas of signal integrity, power integrity and EMC compliance.

ICOM has over 20 years of experience in the field of RFID and Near-Field Communications (NFC) and has now also been active in the field of wireless energy transmission for 10 years. Here too, the use of suitable simulation (especially ANSYS Maxwell/HFSS) can be used for system design.

ICOM has its own (electric) measurement vehicle for the mobile measurement of radio coverage and other customer orders. Mobile speed tests with the cnlab are also carried out with this vehicle.

ICOM has repeatedly participated in major European projects on the subject of «Modern algorithms for satellite-based navigation systems». GPS modules co-developed at ICOM are widely used in automotive navigation and in customer-specific autopilots. The institute has also developed its own GPS trackers and loggers, which can be used to follow sporting events in real time on the Internet.
