Microfluidic mixers are employed for mixing fluid substances, for example in the pharma-industry. Compared to conventional methods, this mixer demonstrates 90% reduced dead volume.
The micro-mixer is built on a silicon substrate and two glass substrates. Fluidic channels are fabricated into the silicon substrate, and sealed with one of the glass substrates. Vias are etched in the glass substrates, through which up to four different fluids can flow into the channels. The channels with the four substances are diverted together in the chip, and they are mixed through diffusion.
In order to regulate the mixing and the reaction temperature, there are cooling channels and a resistive heating element.
